This October, it's going to be a box office war between Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor's movies. Two of the most awaited films of this year – "Bang Bang" and "Haider" – are set to release on the same day i.e., on 2 October.
The competition will be high as they both look promising and have generated curiosity among the audience. But considering the past box office records, only one film will emerge as a winner.
Film industry experts feel that two big movies should not be released on the same day unless it is a festival period. In the past, several big-budget movies starring A-listers of Bollywood were released on the same day, but one film always overshadowed the other.
"Chennai Express" was released last year with "Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara!", but Shah Rukh's film overshadowed Akshay Kumar's film at the box office. Even when Chopra sisters' films "Zanjeer" and "Shuddh Desi Romance" (SDR) were released, it was Parineeti who won the box office battle with "SDR".
Meanwhile, Shahid believes that "Bang Bang" and "Haider" will fare well at the collection centers. In fact, the actor said that he wants Roshan's film to do well as "Bang Bang" is really good.
"We knew pehle se hi ki 'Bang Bang' was releasing the same day as 'Haidar'. I hope 'Bang Bang' does really well, I really like Hrithik's work and it's looking really good," Shahid told DNA.
But Shahid is also very confident of his "Haider" as the genre of the film is very different from "Bang Bang".
"So there are two very distinct choices for people to make. 'Bang Bang' is made at a very different budget from 'Haider'. So I don't see them clashing in terms of offering the audience the same thing."
But on a positive side, both the films will be released on a five-day long weekend. Both the films will get their share to earn money from collection centers in its opening weekend.
Shahid also said that the budget of "Haider" is limited and the makers are expecting that it won't take much time to recover the cost.
"And I have no reason to worry because eventually people want to see good films," he added.
"Bang Bang" is an action drama directed by Siddharth Anand, that features Roshan and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles.
"Haider" is an adaptation of William Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' and is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. The film features Shahid, Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu, Irrfan Khan and Kay Kay Menon in key roles.
