Like all Sanjay Leela Bhansali films, his latest magnum opus "Bajirao Mastani" too is a mega-budget project with a massive set up.
Lead actor Ranveer Singh plays the warrior Peshwa Baji Rao with Priyanka Chopra essaying the role of his first wife Kashibai. Priyanka had earlier mentioned that her role is one of the most difficult ones, however, it has now been revealed that not just the role, but her costumes too have been carefully detailed.
The traditional costumes she wore in the film were hand-picked from different places like Pune, Nashik and Nagpur over a period of one year. Interestingly, the "Dil Dhadakne Do" actress will be seen wearing more than 85 Navvaris (11-meter-long Maharashtrian style saree) in the film.
"In Bajirao Mastani, PC plays a typical Peshwa wife. She will wear nose rings (handpicked from Nashik and Pune) and will look as dignified as he status demands. She will wear the traditional Marathi saree, the Navvari (11-meter, Peshwin style) of vibrant colours along with Maratha jewellery. Throughout the film, she will be seen wearing over 85 Navvaris sourced from various places by the film's stylist Anju Modi," a source told DNA.
"I started working on the film in April last year and travelled to the Ajanta and Ellora caves and visited Paithan in Aurangabad. I also visited the Shivaji Museum and made a few trips to Pune to do my own research on the clothes and jewellery. The sarees were difficult to source as they aren't available now. Also, we wanted bright colours as Priyanka's character is that of a young, confident woman," said Anju.
"Bajirao Mastani" is a period-drama based on the love story of warrior Peshwa Baji Rao, (played by Ranveer) and his second wife Mastani (played by Deepika Padukone).
The plot of "Bajirao Mastani" will essentially revolve around the real-life lovebirds Ranveer and Deepika, however, the story of Baji Rao's troubled first wife Kashibai is an important part of the film.
