Fans of Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra will be disappointed as there will be no dance face-off between the two actresses.
Last year, reports stated that the lead actresses of the movie Deepika and Priyanka would recreate the magic of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit Nene's "Dola Re Dola" song in "Bajirao Mastani".
But the latest reports suggest that director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has scraped the idea of Deepika and Priyanka's jugalbandi.
Pandit Birju Maharaj, the Kathak maestro, confirmed the reports and said that Deepika will perform solo in the movie.
"Sanjay was having second thoughts about this jugalbandi and I will choreograph Deepika in a solo act which is a more contemporary adaptation of one of my own performances set on an Avadhi- Brijwasi thumri, Balma re chunaria maiko lal," the 77-yearold veteran told Mumbai Mirror.
"There's a lot of lal rang in the song with Deepika dressed in fiery red, her head demurely covered by a ghoonghat but her eyes flashing fire," he added.
While talking to the daily, Birju Maharaj revealed that he was not sure of directing untrained dancers, but Bhansali convinced him.
"I figured she would be able to dance gracefully to the thumri Sanjay had picked out. And I was right. Deepika who has received formal training in Bharatnatyam quickly mastered the footwork when she came for riyaaz to Delhi," Panditji said.
The special song will be shot at the end of April, and the team will shoot for 12 nights at a stretch.
