While in India the makers are still finalising the final screen count, at the overseas box office Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Bajirao Mastani" has locked more than 800 screens.
"Bajirao Mastani" is Ranveer Singh's biggest release this year in the international market. Despite releasing with Shah Rukh Khan's "Dilwale", the film has managed to lock huge number of screens overseas. That's not all. The buzz of "Bajirao Mastani" in the international market is similar to Salman Khan's all time blockbuster release "Bajrangi Bhaijaan".
The screen count of "Bajirao Mastani" is also similar to Salman's "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" in the international market.
"It is indeed a huge thing for Bajirao Mastani. Overseas has typically been a superstar driven territory. It is only biggies starring the three Khans, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn or Hrithik Roshan that typically find prominence there, considering the fan following they have built over last so many years. It is very rare when a new star makes a huge impression and earns a huge release to his name. However, content has started speaking the loudest of late. Six months back, a relatively smaller film like Tanu Weds Manu Returns had done so well in the overseas," a source told Koimoi.com.
However, it is not only "Bajirao Mastani" with such huge screen count. Shah Rukh's "Dilwale" will also get massive screen count. It is known that Shah Rukh has a huge fan following overseas and hence his films open to great response overseas.
"It is all the more noticeable since on the same day as Bajirao Mastani arrives, 18th December, Hollywood is arriving with its big bucks film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It is gaining, what you call, a big festival release. While this film is understandably seeing the biggest share of the pie as far as the release size is concerned, Shahrukh Khan's Dilwale is very obviously finding a terrific arrival as well," the source added.
