It looks like Bajaj Auto is still not done with the name for its new cruiser sport motorcycle. The 400cc motorcycle debuted as Pulsar CS400 concept at the Auto Expo 2016 was previously touted with the production name Kratos VS400. However, emerging reports indicate that it will go on sale with the name Dominar 400.
The new motorcycle will go on sale mid-December with the name Bajaj Dominar 400, reports NDTV Auto. There is a possibility of another alphabet between Dominar and 400 in the name, but it will not be rumoured CS or VS.
Dominar will be the new brand of Bajaj Auto that will be positioned above Pulsar and Avenger brands. Dominar will focus only on premium and more powerful motorcycles of the manufacturer. Dominar reportedly comes from the word 'dominate.' Previously suggested Kratos has been renamed as it has been registered by another automotive brand.
The production-spec Dominar has been snapped countless times during its testing on public roads this year. Pictures indicate that there is no major detour from the concept form in terms of styling. Final-spec will sport twin instrument console — one on the handlebar as seen in other bikes and the other on the fuel tank -- and the upside down front forks of the concept will make way for conventional telescopic front suspension.
The new motorcycle will lock horns with the Royal Enfield range of motorcycles as a touring machine. Dominar will be powered by a 373cc liquid-cooled, 4-valve triple-spark, fuel-injected mill mated to six-speed transmission. The engine is expected to pump in a power of 40bhp and 30Nm of peak torque. The motorcycle is also rumoured to get a base variant with 34bhp of power, and will come with ABS as option, if not as standard.
Bajaj Auto is expected to price Dominar in the range of Rs 1.6 lakh to Rs 1.8 lakh, ex-showroom.
