Pune-based Bajaj Auto's yet-to-be-launched power cruiser has had tongues wagging for a while. Adding to the anxiety now comes the news that the two-wheeler giant is mulling a new name. If the emerging reports are anything to go by, Bajaj is reportedly planning to rename its upcoming offering going by the name Kratos VS400 as Dominars 400.
A report of GaadiWaadi, citing sources close to the development, says that Bajaj will launch the new power cruiser by the end of November with a new name. The newly rumoured name Dominars is said to be a Spanish word, which translates into 'dominate' or 'control' in English. With the new offering, the two-wheeler maker is looking to enter a new territory, which is currently being dominated by Royal Enfield. According to the latest reports, the Kratos VS400 aka Dominars 400 has already started reaching the dealerships of the company and deliveries are likely to begin in December.
For the uninitiated, the Kratos VS400, which is also known as Pulsar VS400, is expected to be powered by a 373cc liquid-cooled, 4-valve triple-spark, fuel-injected mill mated to a six-speed transmission. The engine is expected to pump in a power of 40bhp and 30Nm of peak torque. The Kratos VS400 is also rumoured to get a base variant with 34bhp of power.
Bajaj first showcased the new flagship model as a concept named Pulsar CS400 at the Auto Expo 2014. The cruiser although remains true to its concept, there are changes such as twin instrument console — one on the handlebar as seen in other bikes and the other on the fuel tank — and the upside down front forks of the bike have been replaced by a conventional telescopic front suspension. The braking duties in the new Kratos VS400 will be taken care of by disc brakes at the front and rear and the power cruise will come equipped with ABS. From what we hear, the ABS will be offered as optional.
