Varun Dhawan starrer "Badlapur" has put up an impressive opening weekend box office collection. The crime drama remained rock-steady at the domestic box office on third day, despite the India vs South Africa World cup match.
Unlike "Roy", this Sunday the match didn't hamper the box office collection of the crime drama "Badlapur". With this, "Badlapur" broke the third day record of Ranbir Kapoor and Arjun Rampal starrer "Roy".
The film collected ₹8.25 crore, while "Roy" earned ₹7.12 crore on its third day at the box office.
The opening weekend collection of "Badlapur" now stands at ₹24 crore, which is the third highest of 2015.
"#Badlapur is rock solid despite India vs South Africa match on Day 3. Fri 7 cr, Sat 8.75 cr, Sun 8.25 cr+. Total: ₹ 24 cr+. India biz. Fab," trade analysts Taran Adarsh tweeted.
Critics applauded the movie, direction, screenplay and actors' performances in the film, which is one of the reasons behind the film's performance.
Actress Huma Qureshi, who plays the role of a prostitute in the film, thanked director Sriram Raghavan, who she believes is the driving force behind the actors' good performances.
"We feel good when we get appreciation because as actors we work for appreciation. I thank Sriram Raghavan. It's just because of him the film happened. The way he conceived all the characters, the way he directed all of us is amazing," Huma told IANS.
"If I have done a bit of good work in the film, I would credit my entire performance to him (Sriram), Nawaz (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and Varun (Dhawan)."
"I think when you work with good actors you automatically perform good," she added.
The film helmed by Raghavan also features Nawazuddin, Yami Gautam, Radhika Apte, Divya Dutta and Vinay Pathak in key roles. The film was released on 20 February in just 1700 screens.
