Varun Dhawan starrer "Badlapur" has opened on a good note at the box office. The film, which was released in limited screens compared to other biggies, has minted approximately ₹7 crore on opening day.
"Despite 'Adults' tag, targeted primarily at multiplexes and 1700 screen release, #Badlapur goes from strength to strength on Day 1," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"#Badlapur Fri ₹ 7 cr [estimates]. India biz. Excellent growth from evening show onwards. Expect biz to grow further over the weekend," he added.
The opening day box office collection of "Badlapur" is the fourth highest of this year. Ranbir Kapoor and Arjun Rampal's "Roy" collected the highest amount (₹10.4 crore) on first day, followed by Akshay Kumar's "Baby" at second spot with ₹9.3 crore and Arjun Kapoor's "Tevar" is at third position with ₹7.05 crore.
"Tevar" and "Badlapur" opening day box office collection is in the same range, but the latter was released in just 1700 screens in India.
"Badlapur" a crime drama directed by Sriram Raghavan also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui in negative role and Yami Gautam, Huma Qureshi, Divya Dutta, Vinay Pathak and Radhika Apte in key roles.
The film opened with average occupancy, but with strong word of mouth the occupancy increased from the afternoon shows onwards. The reviews and word of mouth are very strong, which will be reflected in the box office collection over the weekend.
Saturday (second day) box office collection is expected to be better than Friday, but Sunday's collection might take a toll with India vs South Africa ICC World cup match.
Meanwhile, the low budget film has opened well in Gulf region on its first day. "Badlapur" minted AED 500,000 (₹ 84.74 lakh) from the UAE-GCC box office.
"#Badlapur - UAE & GCC [revised total]: Thu AED 500,000 [₹ 84.74 lacs]. Very good!" trade analyst Adarsh added.
