"Dum Laga Ke Haisha" earned the production cost from its domestic box office run and is now raking in profit for the makers.
The romantic comedy film is going strong at the box office in second week. Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar, the film was initially released in just 769 screens in India.
But looking at the success rate of the film in the country, the makers have decided to release it at overseas box office.
In India, the film opened to a good response and the box office collection picked up later in the first week and second weekend. "Dum Laga Ke Haisha" minted ₹18 crore in just 11 days.
Also, the film has become the third hit film of 2015 after Akshay Kumar's "Baby" and Varun Dhawan's "Badlapur".
"#DumLagaKeHaisha [Week 2] Fri 1.91 cr, Sat 2.35 cr, Sun 2.47 cr, Mon 79 lacs. Grand total: ₹ 18.16 cr. India biz. HIT," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The film will hit screens in international market, but the makers haven't revealed the release date.
"We are releasing the film internationally probably this weekend. We had a platform release of 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' in India. I think it was a good decision by YRF to gauge the audience's reaction by releasing it in limited screens," Ayushmann told Press Trust of India.
"Depending upon the word-of-mouth and the requests we are getting from our fans outside India, we are releasing it worldwide."
Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan's "Badlapur" is nearing its ₹50 crore mark at the domestic box office. Till the third weekend, the film minted approximately ₹48 crore and will hit the half century mark probably by fourth weekend.
"#Badlapur [Week 3] Fri 78 lacs, Sat 87 lacs, Sun 86 lacs. Total: ₹ 2.51 cr. Grand total: ₹ 48.33 cr. India biz. HIT," Adarsh tweeted.
