As people around the world celebrated Back To The Future Day on 21 October, the day in which Marty McFly and Doc Brown wind up in the future in the 1989 sci-fi film, a politician in Australia has taken fandom to new lengths by riding a DeLorean to work.
New South Wales Premier Mike Baird posted footage to his Facebook page of his riding a DeLorean to an interview in Sydney. He then exited the iconic vehicle featured in the film before saying to the camera, Ive just seen the future for New South Wales - its fantastic.
When posting the video to Facebook, Baird added: Great Scott!! Turns out we still need roads...Happy Back To The Future Day!
Since being published online, the video has gone viral, with the original clip being liked more than 10,000 times on Facebook.
The Back To The Future film trilogy from the 1980s follows the time-travelling exploits of teenager Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) and an eccentric scientist he befriends, Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd).
After travelling back in time in the first film, the sequel, Back To The Future Part II, sees the duo travel 30 years into the future to 21 October 2015, where hoverboards, hydrated food and flying cars all exist. While some of these technologies have come to fruition, other predictions have yet to be realised.
