Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif's "Baar Baar Dekho" has fared way below expectations at the Indian box office. Several experts say it could be the film's complicated premise that has failed to click with the audience. As per early estimates, "Baar Baar Dekho" has collected Rs. 4-5 crore on its first Monday at the domestic box office, taking its 4-day total to Rs. 25.16-26.16 crore.
The figures are mediocre given the film's star value and strong buzz during the initial stages of promotions.
"Baar Baar Dekho" raked in Rs. 6.81 crore on opening day, which was not impressive. It was predicted that the numbers would witness a definite jump and it did on Saturday – Rs. 7.65 crore – but dipped considerably on third day, posting an opening weekend total of Rs. 21.61 crore.
Made on a budget of Rs. 50 crore, "Baar Baar Dekho" has recovered Rs. 26 crore from its satellite and music rights. The romantic-drama is a few crore shy to breaking even.
The daunting question is, will "Baar Baar Dekho" cross the Rs. 50 crore mark?
The uniquely-packaged love story of career-oriented mathematician Jay Verma (Sidharth) and high-spirited Diya Kapoor (Katrina) doesn't have too many takers, which is why it is slowing down at the box office. However, this is not to say that it will not pick up in the coming days, but the chances are slim.
With two important releases coming this Friday, Sept. 16 – "Pink" and "Raaz Reboot," "Baar Baar Dekho" will have to give up a chunk of its screen count for the films. Also, affecting the business are lukewarm audience response, negative word-of-mouth and a handful of scathing critics' reviews.
"Baar Baar Dekho" is crucial for Katrina's career if she wishes to reclaim the number uno spot that she enjoyed during the release of "Dhoom 3" and "Bang Bang."
