SS Rajamouli's "Baahubali - the Beginning" has created history by beating the highest opening day box office collection record held by Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year".
"Happy New Year" released during Diwali 2014 recorded ₹44.97 crore, which was the highest ever opening day box office collection until now. However, "Baahubali" has shattered the records and done a business of more than ₹50 crore on the first day at the Indian box offices.
"#Baahubali creates HISTORY. Records HIGHEST EVER Day 1 biz in *all versions*: ₹ 50 cr. India biz. PHENOMENAL. UNPRECEDENTED," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
Rajamouli's directorial film, which is said to be the most expensive film in the history of Indian cinema, features an ensemble cast starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishnan, Sathyaraj, Nassar, Adivi Sesh, Tanikella Bharani and Sudeep.
The film has opened to positive reviews worldwide. As expected, the Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam versions received phenomenal response, but the Hindi version had an average opening.
The Hindi version of "Baahubali" collected only ₹5.15 crore, which is less than Deepika Padukone's "Piku" and Sunny Leone's "Ek Paheli Leela".
But considering that it was dubbed in Hindi, it recorded the highest collection ever.
The ₹5.15 crore box office income is the highest ever for a dubbed movie in India.
"#Baahubali [Hindi] Fri ₹ 5.15 cr. India biz. HIGHEST biz for a *dubbed movie in Hindi*. FANTASTIC!" Adarsh tweeted.
#Baahubali SHATTERS all box office records and emerges as the highest opener ever!!!!!!! Record day 1 even for a dubbed film...phenomenal!!
