SS Rajamouli's "Baahubali" (Also spelled as "Bahubali") has struck gold at the Tamil Nadu box office and has crossed the 50-crore mark at the end of the third week.
"Baahubali" has grossed Rs.64 crore in 21 days (2 weeks) in Tamil Nadu. The net business of the flick from two versions (Tamil+Telugu) is Rs.53 crore. K Gnanavelraja, who acquired Tamil Nadu theatrical rights for a fancy amount, trusted this mega-budget product and it has given him good profits.
The success of "Baahubali" in Tamil Nadu is quite remarkable as movie with non-Tamil stars usually hardly cross Rs.50-crore mark in the state. The underlining part of the story is that even after three weeks, the film seems to have a strong hold in theatres.
Especially in Chennai, "Baahubali" is getting a fantastic reception and is likely to dominate the box office this weekend too. Till the last weekend, the movie had done a total business of Rs.5.52 crore in the Capital city of Tamil Nadu and it is likely to easily cross Rs.6 crore by the end of its fourth weekend.
Traders are expecting "Baahubali" to make a lifetime business of Rs.75+ crore in Tamil Nadu for which the movie should have a good run for at least two more weeks. The Kollywood version too has done exceedingly well in foreign countries like the UK and Malaysia.
The movie starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty and Tamanna Bhatia is a war-epic movie written by Vijayendra Prasad and directed by his son SS Rajamouli. The movie is jointly bankrolled by Prasad Devineni and Shobu Yarlagadda.
It is a two-part movie, which is made on a budget of Rs.250 crore. While the first instalment was released on 10 July, 2015, the second part would appear before the audience next year. The makers seem to be already in profits with the film grossing Rs.468.4 crore worldwide.
