Dhanush starrer "Maari" had pushed "Baahubali" down to the second position at the Chennai box office in the 17-20 July weekend. But, the latter has bounced back to return to the top position in Tamil Nadu's capital city last weekend (24-26 July).
The good run of "Baahubali" has continued in Chennai, with the movie making Rs. 94.45 lakh at the Chennai box office in its third weekend, reports Behindwoods. The movie had amazing 219 shows and enjoyed above 60% occupancy. This is a huge number for a movie, which is in its third weekend.
The business made by the movie and the number of shows that "Baahubali" had in the weekend clearly tells the success story of the movie in Chennai. The movie was pushed down to the second place by Dhanush starrer "Maari" previous week. But this weekend, the SS Rajamouli directorial returned to the number uno position.
While "Maari" had made Rs. 1.21 crore from 294 shows in its opening weekend, "Baahubali" had earned Rs.1.05 crore from 237 shows in its second weekend.
This weekend, "Maari" could only make Rs. 64.96 lakh from 189 shows. The total business made by the movie by the end of 10 days at the Chennai box office stands at Rs. 2.50 crore.
On the other hand, the 17-day collection of "Baahubali" at the Chennai box office is Rs. 5.52 crore, which is a record for a non-Tamil A-list star's film in the state. The multi-starrer movie does not seem like slowing down and is expected to continue its dream run for at least two weeks now.
The biggest advantage that "Baahubali" had was no A-list star's Tamil film hit the screens in the last few weeks. The only film that was expected to slow down the collection of SS Rajamouli's film was "Maari", which got mixed reviews from the audience.
From the entire Tamil Nadu region, "Baahubali", which has earned Rs. 425 crore worldwide, expectedly earned above Rs. 46 crore from Tamil and Telugu versions.
