SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2 ended its first week on a high note, and surpassed the collection of Vijay's Bairavaa on Friday, May 6. It now holds the top place among the highest-grossing movies of 2017 in Tamil Nadu.
Baahubali 2 grossed over Rs 63 crore in Tamil Nadu in eight days. It thus beat the record of the Vijay-starrer Bairavaa, which made a lifetime collection of Rs 61 crore in the state. Suriya's Singam is in the third place with a total lifetime gross collection of Rs 44 crore in Tamil Nadu.
It has to be noted that the aforementioned collection of Baahubali 2 is the combined gross collection of four versions (Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam). The Shobu Yarlagadda -produced film requires another Rs 14 crore to recover distributor Sri Green Productions' investment of Rs 47 crore on the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights of the magnum opus.
Baahubali 2 minted Rs 31.55 crore in the three-day first weekend. The collection on its first Monday was solid due to the International Labours Day holiday. Trade experts were expecting the business to dip from Tuesday, but the collection surprisingly remained stable throughout the week. The summer holiday season has worked in favour of the multilingual project as family audience is taking out time to watch the film during weekdays.
Meanwhile, the worldwide collection of Baahubali 2, which stars Anushka Shetty and Tamannaah Bhatia in the female lead roles, is moving towards the Rs 1,000-crore mark. By the end of its eighth day, the movie minted Rs 947 crore. All the four versions have been declared blockbusters in India and overseas.
