Baahubali 2 (Baahubali: The Conclusion) is a phenomenal success at the box office, earning Rs 1,300 crore in 13 days, a record for an Indian film. The success of the Prabhas and Rana Daggubati-starrer is now being seen as worth studying for smart-investing by Angel Broking, which says Baahubali 2 makes a "better investment icon" than billionaire investor Warren Buffett.
There is a lot to learn from the S S Rajamouli-directorial's success.
"As Bahubali continues to set new records each day, the question is what can investors and traders cull from the Bahubali story? Interestingly, there are some interesting takeaways from the way the movie was managed and the way the content was built," the brokerage writes in a blog post, listing key takeaways from the movie's storyline, portrayal and box-office success for investors.
Have patience, it eventually works
Never forget the big picture; in other words, remain conscious of your ultimate objective and don't get distracted by periodical disruptions. "Here is a man (Baahubali) who forfeits his right to the throne but never loses sight of the kingdom. Two generations kept gradually chipping away at the kingdom and that is how there was finally redemption.
"Even in the field of investing, the waiting game eventually pays off. Of course, like Bahubali, you need to keep constantly chipping away at your eventual investment goal," says the brokerage.
Don't forget your basic investment principle
Have conviction in your investments If they are based on sound guidance and principles, ignoring just like Baahubali does. "Bahubali gives up on the throne because he does not want to compromise on his principles. In the investment arena too, your strategy is built on your core philosophy and investment principles. Even as you are flexible with the changing situations, you must not falter on your core investment goal," explains Angel Broking.
Greed at the wrong time can eventually be your undoing
There is a famous saying that stock markets are driven by fear and greed, but stay calm. "That comes out vividly from the Bahubali story. Bahubali's brother succumbs to greed and that eventually proves to be his undoing. Bahubali, on the other hand, was greedy at the right time, while his brother was greedy at the wrong time.
Similarly, in the investment arena you need to know when to be greedy and when to be fearful. Greed at the bottom of the investing cycle and Fear at the top is positive. The reverse can be disastrous for you," the brokerage writes.
There are some other tips for investors, especially for those tempted to booking profit when the markets rally. "sequels do work in reality. It worked for Francis Ford Coppola in "Godfather" and it worked in case of Bahubali too. Even in your investment portfolio, profit booking is not the end of your relationship with the stock. There are sequels and there are successful sequels," Angel Broking says.
Baahubali 2 (Baahubali: The Conclusion) is a sequel to Baahubali: The Beginning, released in July 2015.
