The makers of Baahubali 2 starring Prabhas and Rana Daggubati, have successfully got arrested a Delhi-based gang, which reportedly threatened the makers of leaking its HD quality print for download if they did not pay money.
The gang reportedly managed to secure a HD-quality copy of Baahubali 2 from a theatre, breaching satellite technology security. Two days after its release, the gang, which claimed to be anti-piracy activists, called the bosses of Arka Media Works Entertainment Limited.
According to The Hindu, the gang threatened the makers of Baahubali 2, saying that they would leak the full movie on the internet if they did not pay them Rs 15 lakh per day. "We have a high- definition pirated copy of your blockbuster. Pay us ₹ 15 lakh a day, otherwise the movie would be uploaded on Internet," the caller was quoted as saying.
The worried makers of Baahubali 2 reportedly approached the Central Crime Station with a case. The Hyderabad police got into action and were successful in nabbing six of its members from Delhi and Patna on Tuesday. "Six of the gang members were arrested and brought to Hyderabad on transit warrant," The Hindu quoted DCP Avinash Mohanty saying at a press conference.
The caller from the gang even sent a sample video to the makers as a proof of the pirated copy, which was the HD copy of Baahubali 2. The police found that the movie was copied from a theatre in Begusarai district of Bihar. A police team went to Veena theatre in Tivhra village of Begusarai district.
During the interrogation, the owner of the cinema hall admitted helping the gang. "Theatre owner Diwakar admitted that he colluded with óne Monu, an ex-employee of one of the satellite broadcasters of the movie, and got its copy by recording through the media server," Mohanty said.
While Diwakar was caught, Monu managed to escape. Rahul Mehta had come from Delhi to Hyderabad for negotiations with the film makers and the Hyderabad police arrested him. His associates -Jitender Kumar Mehta, Tauffiq and Muhammad Ali were arrested in Delhi and brought to Hyderabad.
