Baahubali 2 has entered its sixth week in Tamil Nadu and remains in the top position. The dream run of SS Rajamouli's film in the state has continued even in the face of new releases. This weekend, Hollywood movie Baywatch hit the screens on the back of a huge hype but failed to put a dent on Baahubali's business.
By the end of 38 days, Baahubali 2 has minted around Rs. 133.6 crore at the Tamil Nadu box office. The movie, which didn't get the 30 percent entertainment tax exemption after being awarded an 'A' certificate from the censor board, has made a net income of Rs. 111.4 crore, reports leading trade tracker Andhra Box Office. The distributors' share stands at Rs. 72.4 crore
The industry was expecting the business of Baahubali 2 to slow down after the release of Hollywood movie Baywatch, which was released in Tamil and English in Tamil Nadu. But Priyanka Chopra's flick did not get a good opening following poor ratings.
Hollywood movies have a good market in Tamil Nadu. Especially in Chennai, the dubbed and the English versions pull a good number of audience to theatres. But not for Baywatch. In the capital city of the state, it has raked in Rs. 24.09 lakh. But, another Hollywood flick Wonder Woman came up with a better performance than the Priyanka's flick collecting Rs. 25.81 lakh in Chennai.
Meanwhile, Baahubali 2 has become the biggest hit of all time at the Tamil Nadu box office. It surpassed the collection of Rajinikanth's Enthiran 2, which minted over Rs. 105 crore in 2010.
