Azure Power, solar power producing company, announced on Wednesday that it has won projects from public sector NTPC to build 100 MW of solar power in Andhra Pradesh at a higher tariff of Rs 5.12/kWh.
The project, won in auction, is part of the National Solar Mission and will be built at the Andhra Pradesh solar park, for which NTPC has auctioned 1,000 MW of solar power projects.
The tariff is 11% higher than the first two auctions won by Sun Edison and Soft Bank at Rs 4.63/kWh.
The auction was set for projects using solar cells and modules manufactured in India to promote the government of India's 'Make in India' campaign, a press statement said.
"We are proud to have successfully brought down the cost of solar power by almost 71% from INR 17.91 /kWh in 2009 to INR 5.12/kWh in this project," said Inderpreet Wadhwa, founder and CEO, Azure Power.
In June this year, Azure Power commissioned a 100 MW plant in Rajasthan. It also won a contract to generate 150MW in solar power in an auction in Punjab at a tariff of Rs 5.63/kWh.
