Emraan Hashmi has impressed his fans once again with his performance in the latest release, "Azhar." Though audience and celebrities praised the sports drama, critics were not impressed with the storyline.
Directed by Tony D'Souza, "Azhar" highlights Mohammad Azharuddin's achievements, the match-fixing controversy and his much-publicised affair with and marriage to Bollywood actress Sangeeta Bijlani. According to the reviews, the film had a decent story but it failed to provide a gripping experience.
However, Emraan's attempt to portray Azharuddin has been highly appreciated. It was unlike any other Emraan-starrer, laced with romance, fights and of course, hit peppy songs. Fans praised the actor in this avatar as well.
Prachi Desai was seen as Emraan's first wife Naureen in the sports biopic, while Nargis Fakhri played his second wife Sangeeta. Prachi and Emraan had earlier worked together in "Once upon a Time in Mumbaai" (2010). "Azhar" also features Gautam Gulati, who plays a character based on Ravi Shastri in the movie.
Meanwhile, the movie, released on May 13, has been lauded by celebrities as well. They have expressed their views on the film as well as congratulated the "Azhar" team on social media. Take a look at the tweets here:
