Avril Lavigne has become the latest victim of death hoax on social media after a Twitter user came up with a conspiracy theory stating that she died in 2003 and was replaced by a lookalike.
The series of tweets, which were retweeted around a million times and garnered over 150,000 likes, captured the attention of several social media users and some of them started questioning the Canadian punk rocker.
While one of the netizen wrote, "That Avril Lavigne thing has been trending for almost 24 hours and she's said nothing. Suspicious? I think yes", another person stated, "@TheEllenShow please interview the fake Avril Lavigne we need to get to the bottom of this."

Twitter was also flooded with praises for the social media user -- Givenchyass -- for laying out a convincing conspiracy theory about Lavigne. "You know that conspiracy theory that avril lavigne was replaced by a lookalike in the early 2000s? It's the best conspiracy theory ever," commented a social media user.
Although the world is going crazy to know the truth after reading one of the most insane conspiracy theories about her demise, the Canadian punk rocker is tight-lipped about it. The only update on her social media page is a Mother's Day message, which read: "Happy Mother's Day to my incredible mother and everyone else's mom's out there!"
So, fans of the 32-year-old singer, song-writer and actress are looking forward to her appearance on a talk show to prove that it is another death hoax.

Now before some of you come at me with a "this isn't true" "how can y'all believe this" ITS A CONSPIRACY THEORY. I'm not sitting here being like "this is 100% facts" it's literally just a theory so calm down and miss me.
So let me begin this by telling you a little about Avril. She was born in Ontario, Canada in 1984 and her first album "let go" was released in 2002 when she was 18. Up until this point she was so used to being able to live a normal life and now that she was famous, she couldn't handle the paparazzi.
So she decided to hire a look alike to walk around LA for her and pose for the paparazzi. Her name is Melissa Vandella and they quickly became best friends. An unknown source says that Melissa and Avril were in the studio one day hanging out and they thought it would be funny to teach Melissa how to sing and sound like Avril.
So moving on to 2003, Melissa was still working for Avril and Avril was about to start working on her next album. Tragically, Avril's grandfather passed away and it hurt her so much. He was her best friend and her biggest supporter.
She was so distraught, crying on stage and in interviews. She would lock herself in her apartment and write for weeks. Other sources even said she threatened to kill herself and tried to attempt several times because she felt she couldn't go on without him.
The next part of this theory is that she actually succeeded. It is said Avril hung herself in late 2003. she was at the peak of her career, so it is said that instead of letting the news of her dying go into the media, they used her look alike to live on the rest of "Avril Lavigne's" life as her.
