New Volkswagen Tiguan SUV made its India debut at the ongoing Auto Expo 2016. The all-new Tiguan was first unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The new Tiguan, despite being 60mm longer and 30mm wider than the original, has lost more than 50kg and sits 33mm lower. The wheelbase has been stretched by 77mm to 2,681 mm, resulting in increased interior space. The boot volume of the new Tiguan can take on up to 615-litres of cargo.
The new Tiguan also uses the MQB platform of the VW group as opposed to the current PQ35 platform. The vehicle will boast of Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, Lane Assist and the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, all as standard safety features.
The Tiguan is available for the global market in a range of eight engines in petrol and diesel with power ranging from 115bhp to 248bhp. Though the engine for India is not confirmed, the vehicle is likely to get 187bhp, 2.0-litre diesel engine.
Volkswagen India had earlier confirmed the local assembly of the Tiguan at its Pune facility. The Tiguan will be pitted against Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Chevrolet Trailblazer and the new Toyota Fortuner.
