General Motors India unveiled Chevrolet Beat Essentia compact sedan and Beat Activ concept at the Auto Expo 2016. The Beat Essentia is a notchback model based on the next generation Beat hatchback platform, while the Beat Activ is a jazzed up model of the hatchback. Both the vehicles will be launched in 2017.
General Motors claims the Beat Essentia and Beat Activ were specifically designed at the GM Korea Design Studio to suit the tastes of the Indian consumer without compromising on global appeal. The Beat Essantia will receive the baton from the Sail sedan, which failed to attract many buyers. The Beat Essentia sedan features the 1.2-litre STEC II engine that is good for 77bhp and 107Nm, the diesel mill is the 1.0L XSDE unit 56bhp and 142.5Nm.
The Beat Activ concept comes with pseudo-SUV stance, which is expected to be the most affordable crossover when launched. The concept features LED lighting in the headlamps and fog lamps, black plastic cladding on the bumper and skid plate. In the interior, the concept features 7-inch MyLink infotainment system and a motorbike-inspired instrument cluster.
Chevrolet also showcased the Spin MPV, which has been confirmed to arrive in India in 2017. The other attractions at Chevrolet stall were the Camaro, Corvette sports cars and current India line-up that include Trailblazer SUV and new Cruze sedan.
With the introduction of new products, GM India seeks to increase the localisation of its vehicles over 85 percent within five years, while increasing exports from 21,000 units in 2015 to 50,000 units this year.
