The Australian Cricket team paraded the ICC World Cup before an adoring public in Melbourne city centre on 30 March after beating New Zealand the night before at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss paid tribute to the team calling them the pride of the nation.
We thank you for the great pleasure that youve given us and congratulations on your great success in the 2015 ICC World Cricket Cup, Truss said.
The countrys fifth World Cup title sees captain Michael Clarke signing off in style from international one-day cricket and he said the team had a night of celebrations.
These guys enjoyed every single win, yeah theres no doubt about it. One thing this team does know how to do is celebrate. We do that pretty well. I think thats part of the Australian way. I think its important, you work so hard to have success and when you do I think youve got to enjoy it and like I say, today well continue to enjoy it, Clarke said.
Clarke top scored in his countrys crushing seven-wicket victory over New Zealand and he said it was a great way to end his tenure.
More than 93,000 people packed the MCG to see the final and many were back in town to pay tribute to their heroes on Monday morning.
Australia previously won the World Cup in 1987, 1999, 2003 and 2007. No other country has won the tournament, which was first held in 1975, more than twice.
