Steve Smith's Australia had to win big and they did that with elan on Tuesday. The Aussies won the first leg of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy 2016 series in Australia with two wins on the trot from three scheduled matches.
The Australia cricket team continued from where they left the 1st ODI between themselves and the Black Caps. While the 1st ODI was won via 68 runs at the SCG by Steve Smith and men, they bettered that margin as Australia hammered the New Zealand cricket team to win the 2nd ODI by 116 runs in Canberra; in the process also bossing Australian leg of the series!
Whether they can whitewash their Trans-Tasman rival in the first half of the series remains to be seen now as the 3rd ODI takes place in Melbourne on Friday.
Here are some beautiful moments from the Australia vs New Zealand 2nd ODI
David Warner's 119 runs off 115 balls - The veteran Aussie southpaw hit 14 boundaries and a six en route to his sensational knock, that remained an integral part to Australia posting a huge score of 378 runs from 50 overs.
Steve Smith has continued his momentum - The Australian skipper was keen on another century after his heroics at Sydney. He didn't get to achieve that, but nevertheless, his 72 off 76 balls did help his side once again to post the big total.
Australia batsman find form - Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh scored half centuries each and the Australian batting in the 2nd ODI remained a complete spectacle. Travis hit a couple of sixes and a plethora of boundaries before getting dismissed for 57 runs from only 32 balls.
Marsh, on the other hand, remained undismissed during his jaw-dropping innings of 76 runs from 40 balls. Believe it or not, that knock consisted a total of seven sixes!
Kane Williamson and James Neesham give hope - New Zealand tried their best to fulfil their target and that wasn't easy. Kane (81 off 80 balls) and Neesham (74 off 83 balls) carried out a good partnership for the Black Caps after two wickets had fallen. Special things could have transpired if they both stuck until the end of the New Zealand innings, but Neesham's dismissal in the 30th over sounded as the death knell for the away team.
Pat Cummins is key to Australian bowling - The 23-year-old Aussie pacer has already picked up a total of six wickets (two wickets in the 1st ODI, four wickets in the 2nd ODI) over the last two matches and he is slowly turning out to be a nightmare for the New Zealand batsmen.
