In yet another racial attack in Australia, an Indian cab driver was physicially and verbally abused on Friday, May 19. The incident took place in the Sandy Bay of Tasmania, following which he was admitted to hospital.
According to the ANI, the driver who has been disallowed to disclose his name due to legal proceedings said that he was attacked by a couple whom he had picked up on Friday night at around 10.30 pm. They were heading to a McDonalds drive-through when the female passenger reportedly kept opening the door to throw up. Despite the cab driver requesting the woman to close the door to avoid a possible collision, the women ignored him.
Instead the couple started hurling profanities and racial slurs at the driver. The couple de-boarded the cab and started damaging the vehicle by repeatedly kicking it. The female passenger called him "bloody Indian," as the cab driver filmed their violence.
The male passenger punched and kicked the driver and said, "You f****** Indian, you deserve it."
The victim was admitted to hospital overnight due to his injuries. While the victim has said that the police is ignoring the matter, another witness has testified on behalf of the cab driver.
