Australia, riding on some brilliance from skipper Steve Smith, won against New Zealand by 68 runs in their first ODI of the three-match Chappell-Hadlee Trophy 2016 series, on Sunday at the Sydney Crickt Ground. Smith, singlehandedly, with some impressive batting and fielding, gave his side the win.
For New Zealand, Martin Guptill tried his best as he scored 114 runs of 102 balls to come close to reaching the 325-run target set by the home team. The Black Caps could manage to score only a total of 256 runs as they got all out at 44.2 overs.
Adam Zampa and Mitchell Marsh remained the key bowlers for Australia as they picked up a total of five wickets between themselves to register the morale-boosting victory. The next ODI between the sides is set for Tuesday in Canberra.
