Atul Sabharwal's directed crime and action drama "Aurangzeb" is going 'slow and steady' at collection centres in India. The film starring Arjun Kapoor in a double role has minted around ₹16 crore within five days of its release at theaters across the country.
"#Aurangzeb *actuals* Fri 3.92 cr, Sat 3.96 cr, Sun 4.98 cr, Mon 2.12 cr, Tue 1.73 cr. Total: 16.71 crore," trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh said.
Arjun Kapoor's debut film "Ishaqzaade" was a superhit film. The action and romantic film which also stars Parineeti Chopra earned ₹15.69 crore in just three days of its release. But Arjun's second film failed to make an impression on movie buffs.
The film had received mixed to negative reviews from critics, which also affected the collection of the film. The film is produced by Yash Raj Films on a budget of just ₹15 crore.
This year, the box office has witnessed several hits and super lows. And if "Aurangzeb" collections decline gradually than it will join the list of flops or average films like "Himmatwala", "3G' among others.
The double role formula also did not help in drawing audiences. The film had big stars like Prithviraj Sukumaran, Rishi Kapoor, Sashaa Agha, Swara Bhaskar, Jackie Shroff and Arjun Kapoor. The big star cast and story line also couldn't help the film's business.
"Kai Po Che!" and "Aashiqui 2" had performed much better than the film that featured big stars.
"Aurangzeb" might cover the production cost in its second week, but it won't be able to make it as big as "Ishaqzaade".
