Crime thriller "Aurangzeb" starring Arjun Kapoor in a double role had a lukewarm opening in the international market. The film in two days collected ₹36.78 lakh from the UK, Australia, Canada, US and New Zealand circuits.
The film opened to a dull response in India as well, collecting only 3.9 crore from theatres. The two-day overseas and domestic box office collections stand at ₹4.27 crore.
"Aurangzeb *UK* Fri £ 8,237, Sat £ 10,540. Total: £ 18,777 [₹15.63 lacs]. *Australia* Fri A$ 4,001, Sat A$ 4,712. Total: A$ 8,713 [₹4.66 lacs]. *New Zealand* Fri NZ$ 1,717, Sat NZ$ 3,179. Total: NZ$ 4,896 [₹2.17 lacs]. *USA/Canada* Fri $ 26,100 on 62 screens [₹14.32 lacs], trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"Aurangzeb" directed by Atul Sabharwal was made on a budget of ₹25 crore. The film, produced by Yash Raj Films production, is about a land mafia played by Jackie Shroff.
The hardcore action thriller failed to make an impact on Indian as well as global audiences. Critics also gave mixed reviews to the film but praised Arjun's performance.
In India, the film registered an occupancy of around 15 to 25 percent in multiplexes and single screens on the opening day, making it one of the dull starts of the year. The business was good in North circuits including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and East Punjab.
Trade analysts expect a rise in collections during the weekend. But with previous releases like "Aashiqui 2" and "Shootout at Wadala", which are still going strong, it appears that "Aurangzeb" may have a tough time in becoming a box office hit.
