Crime thriller "Aurangzeb" starring Arjun Kapoor and newcomer Sasha Aagha in lead roles opened to a poor response in the first weekend.
The film, which also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Rishi Kapoor, Amrita Singh, Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher and Swara Bhaskar, minted ₹12.86 crore in the opening weekend.
Revealing the first weekend collections of the film, trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#Aurangzeb *actuals* Fri 3.92 cr, Sat 3.96 cr, Sun 4.98 cr. Total: 12.86 cr."
Considering its low audience count, it was believed that "Aurangzeb" would collect between ₹12.08 crore to ₹12.33 crore in the first weekend. Before rounding off the actual total, Taran had tweeted," #Aurangzeb collected Rs 12.08 cr to 12.33 cr nett in its opening weekend. Fri 3.92 cr, Sat 3.91 cr, Sun *estimates* 4.25 cr to 4.50 cr."
"Aurangzeb" opened to a lukewarm response on the opening day and minted just ₹3.92 crore at the domestic box office. However, the film was expected to do good business over the weekend but its collections did not rise much. The film fared comparatively better in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh circuits.
Stating that collections of "Aurangzeb" was below par, Taran said on Bollywood Hungama, "Is (Aurangzeb) below par. Started on a sluggish note and didn't show any major growth over the weekend. Is slightly better in Delhi-U.P. circuit. Collected 12.86 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup:- Fri 3.92 cr, Sat 3.96 cr, Sun 4.98 cr. Total: 12.86 cr."
"Aurangzeb" stars Arjun Kapoor in a double role and introduces veteran actress and singer Salma Aagha's daughter Sasha Aagha. The film had a dull opening in the overseas market as well. It collected only ₹36.78 lakh from the UK, Australia, Canada, US and New Zealand markets in two days.
The film is about a real estate manager, Yashvardhan played by Jackie Shroff, and his involvement in various illegal activities. In a move to put an end to his criminal activities, the police replaces his son Ajay with an identical man named Vishal.
