Audi has unveiled its updated armoured A8 L Security sedan, which will be displayed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. According to Audi, A8 L Security is the most secure Audi that meets the VR 9 ballistic protection standard, currently the most stringent requirements for civilian high-security sedans.
The updates include the safety cell of the new Audi A8 L Security integrated in high resistant materials – aramide fabric, aluminum alloys and a hot-formed steel armour that offers even more protection despite its lower weight. The improvements enabled the A8 L Security to achieve class VR 9. Previously, A8 L Security fulfilled resistance class VR 7.
Audi manufacturers each car at its Neckarsulm plant. Standard security features of the luxury sedan include an armoured communication box in the luggage compartment, an intercom and selective door unlocking. The emergency exit system, fire extinguishing system and emergency fresh air system are optional safety features.
The car comes with the quattro drive, the all-wheel drive system. Audi claims A8 L Security is the only car that is offered with all-wheel drive directly from the manufacturer as an armoured high-security vehicle.
The security sedan will be available in 4.0-litre TFSI, twin-turbo V8 that develops 435hp and 600Nm or a naturally aspirated W12 FSI engine that offers 500hp and 625Nm of torque. The vehicle has a top speed of electronically limited 210 kmph.
