German luxury car maker Audi launched its high performance Audi R8 V10 plus car in India with a price tag of ₹2.05 crore.
The company, which sees India as a potential market, hopes to sell more than 10,000 cars in the country by the end of this year. With the launch of the new variant, the company is hoping to emerge as the number one auto maker in the luxury car segment. Audi India is also planning to roll out 7-8 global models in Indian market during this period of time.
"I am confident that this high performance super sportscar will allow us to further build upon our leadership position in the super sports car segment in India and maintain the iconic position of the R8 in India," said Audi India Head Michael Perschke at the launch adding that "going forward this year, we will see couple of our performance cars from the global portfolio coming to India".
Audi R8 V10 Plus is powered by 5.2-litre V10 FSI engine from Lamborghini and expects to generate 550 bhp of power and 540 Nm of torque at the peak.
Currently, Audi sells Audi R8, Audi R8 Spyder, Audi Q3, Audi Q5 and Audi Q7 models in India.
According to the company, Audi has sold 775 cars in India in February, recording a growth of 29 percent compared to the corresponding month last year. Although the automobile market has been on a decline over the past couple of months, the surge in car sales gives hope to Audi.
"India was the fastest growing market for Audi in 2012 after China and with the responses we are getting, we aim to achieve around 20 percent growth in sales this year from what we sold last year," Michael Perschke added.
