German luxury car maker Audi unveiled its mini SUV Q2 in March this year. The Q2 sits below the Q3 SUV, which is on sale in India. India being the hotbed for compact SUVs, the arrival of the Q2 has been much anticipated. Emerging reports says Audi India may launch the Q2 in the latter half of this year.
A report in Times of India claims Audi India has planned Q2 launch by 2016-end. "It is an urban SUV and will be aimed at young achievers," the publication quoted Joe King, the Head of Audi in India as saying.
The Q2 is the latest entry to the Audi Q SUV series which include Q3, Q5 and the flagship Q7. The mini SUV features a new single-frame grille that is flanked by large headlamps, which are more in square shape. The lower bumper also sports generously-sized air inlets.
The rear body is designed with a long roof spoiler and a diffuser with an underbody protection look. The Q2 features slightly different design compared to the elder siblings. It comes with more young looks and the style has received more importance than practicality in design.
The Q2 comes with optional touchpad for driver's inputs and the Wi-Fi hotspot can be connected with smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. The technological add-ons in the SUV include Audi virtual cockpit with a head up display and a 12.3 inch screen. The Bang & Olufsen sound system delivers 705 watts of audio power and 14 loudspeakers.
Audi unveiled Q2 in three TFSI and three TDI engine options. The petrol engines are three-cylinder 1.0 TFSI engine (116 hp), 1.4 TFSI (150 hp) and 2.0 TFSI engine (190 hp). The diesel mills include 1.6-litre unit (116hp) and 2.0 TDI unit that develops power in two states of tune -- 150 hp and 190 hp.
Audi offers a six-speed manual transmission and the S tronic dual-clutch transmission with seven speeds in combination with all engines. Which engine and gearbox combination will make it to India remains to be seen.
