Atletico de Kolkata are one of the giants of Indian Super League. They have made it to the semis of the Indian football competition in all the three seasons. With an ISL 2016 last four berth achieved, can the Sourav Ganguly co-owned side just happen to go and lift their second ISL title in three years?
ATK can well draw inspiration from Bengaluru FC, who have come across an identical path -- two domestic league trophies in three years.
This time around, there is no Antonio Habas -- the inspirational coach at the helm of the ISL franchisee from Bengal in the last two seasons. The Spanish coach moved to FC Pune City at the start of ISL 2016 but couldn't lead the Maharashtra outfit to their maiden semis. It does signify that Habas wasn't the only inspiration why ATK has fared so well over the seasons, it is actually the whole team composition that has worked for Ganguly's side.
Jose Molina got a major brownie point owing to the presence of Portugal veteran Helder Postiga in ISL 2016. The star forward's availability for the entire 2015 season could have resulted in a better performance from Atletico de Kolkata, but this time, Postiga's injury-free campaign has come as a major boost for the ISL side.
There is a major chance that ATK can meet Kerala Blasters in the final of ISL 2016, but before that, winning over two legs of the ISL 2016 semi finals, remains the most vital thing.
Home matches for ATK this season have been a major worry. Possibly, owing to the fact that they have adjusted less at the Rabindra Sarobar stadium. Molina has also shared similar sentiments. "I wish both legs of the semifinal were away matches looking at the way we played in these 14 matches," the former Villarreal head coach was quoted saying.
