Pakistani singer-songwriter Atif Aslam recently announced that he will not be part of "Coke Studio Pakistan" Season 9. This announcement comes just a year after he delivered the smash hit "Tajdar-e-Haram" at the music TV show.
Although Aslam has appeared in four seasons of "Coke Studio Pakistan," he has not been part of back-to back seasons, apart from Season 5 and 6. The singer said in a report that he will be focusing on his own projects for the time being.
So, since he will be missed by fans on the show, here's a recap of his best performances on "Coke Studio Pakistan:"
"Tajdar-e-Haram"
Produced by Strings and showcased in Season 8, the track is a tribute to Sufi legends, the Sabri Brothers. Apart from Aslam's soulful singing, this song is special because of its extensive use of traditional instruments. It has crossed over 18 million views on YouTube since releasing last year.
"Jal Pari"
A part of Aslam's debut solo album, "Jal Pari" is perhaps one of the most iconic songs the singer has ever sung. This track, featured in "Coke Studio Pakistan" Season 2, is a reworked version of the original song and is more upbeat than former.
"Channa"
A track that has influences of jazz, blues and funk, "Channa," featured in Season 6, becomes more endearing with Aslam's heartfelt singing. The string orchestration that begins in the middle of the track might come as a surprise to someone who listens to it for the first time.
"Charkha Nolakha"
Aslam's stint in Season 5 will be remembered for his power-packed collaborations. This track, featuring Umair Jaiswal and Islamabad-based rock band Qayaas, has a dark vibe that is quite often seen in progressive rock music.
