Smartphones have hit the mainstream as tech giants battle their way to reach the top in any way possible. If a tech giant launches a new smartphone with certain expertise, rival companies try to outperform with a competing model. Owing to the increasing popularity of seflies, Asus launched its all-new Zenfone Selfie that also aims to target fellow rivals with similar specs.
Here is a comparison of the Zenfone Selfie with its closest competitor Micromax Canvas Selfie. Micromax launched its Canvas Selfie smartphone last year, but announced the pricing only in February. The handset is now available for purchase.
Display
Asus Zenfone Selfie smartphone sports a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display with a pixel density of 403ppi. Protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 4, the handset also boasts TruVivid technology by Asus to bring out the most in images and videos. As for the Micromax smartphone, Canvas Selfie features a compact 4.7-inch HD IPS display and packs Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection.
Camera
Since both smartphones are advertised as selfie smartphones, buyers will be treated with similar camera experience. The Asus Zenfone Selfie has 13mp rear and front facing cameras with dual-coloured real tone flash. Diving into the details of the camera, the Zenfone Selfie packs an f/2.0 aperture lens on the rear and an f/2.2 aperture for the front sensor as well as laser auto flash for quick snapping.
Micromax Canvas Selfie is also treated with similar 13mp rear and front facing cameras with LED flash. To add an exclusive touch to the handset, the Canvas Selfie offers different tools such as skin-smoothening, teeth-whitening, make-up, dark circle remover, oil remover and more.

Asus Zenfone Selfie is powered by a 64-bit octa-core (1.7GHz quad-core and 1GHz quad-core) Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor with Adreno 405 GPU for graphics. On the other hand, Micromax Selfie smartphone is powered by a 1.7GHz octa-core Mediatek MT6592 processor.
Although both handsets run on Google's Android platform, the Asus Selfie phone is powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box. Micromax, however, is run by Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
RAM and Storage
Asus has 2GB/3GB variants of its Zenfone Selfie that come with 16GB or 32GB onboard storage. In addition users can expand memory up to 64GB via microSD card. As for Micromax Canvas Selfie, the option is quite limited as it comes with fixed 2GB RAM and 16GB built-in storage, expandable up to 32GB via microSD card.
Battery
Asus Zenfone Selfie packs an impressive 3,000mAh battery while the Micromax handset comes with a 2,300mAh battery. There is no word on the talk time, but going by the capacity of each battery, Asus Zenfone Selfie has a better chance of running for longer hours.
Price
Micromax Canvas Selfie is readily available via major online retailers including Flipkart, Amazon, Infibeam and others. The handset's current price is ₹14,599 on Amazon.in while it was launched for ₹15,999 in February.
Asus is yet to confirm the pricing of its Zenfone Selfie, but the company is expected to finalise on the price somewhere between ₹13,000-₹17,000.
Verdict
Without the Zenfone Selfie pricing, it is hard to draw a final conclusion. But going by the specs, Asus Zenfone Selfie offers better storage, battery, display and camera. If Asus can price its selfie-centric smartphone somewhere close to Micromax Canvas Selfie, consumers will be inclined towards Zenfone.
