Asus is expanding its Zenfone series vigorously, and two new Zenfone 3 models made a stop at the GFXBench site, revealing key details. The official launch of the third generation of the Zenfone smartphones is still months away, but the leaked reports give an idea of what's in the pipeline.
Pocket Now spotted the GFXBench listing of two Asus models codenamed Z010DD and Z012D with different specifications. As per the listing, the two variants of the Zenfone 3 series will feature phablet-sized screens and mid-range specifications.
The GFXBench listing for Asus Z010DD reveals a 5.9-inch HD display, 12MP primary camera with LED flash and a 5MP front-snapper. The handset is said to be powered by a 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, Adreno 405 GPU and 3GB RAM. Asus will offer 32GB of onboard storage in the Z010DD Zenfone 3, which will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
Zenfone 3 Z012D will sport a 5.5-inch Full-HD display and be run by a 1.7GHz hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor. Like the Z010DD variant, Zenfone Z012D will sport 3GB RAM, 32GB storage and Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The Asus Zenfone 3 series is going to be a major upgrade from the current Zenfone 2 models. Although the leaked models do not show huge improvements over the predecessors, Asus CEO Jonney Shih told Trusted Reviews in October 2015 Zenfone 3 would have USB Type-C ports. A recent report in December last year claimed the new Asus Zenfone series will have fingerprint scanners as well.
The first of likely many Asus Zenfone 3 models is expected to go official in May.
In other news, Asus on Friday was all set to launch the Zenfone Zoom in India. Fans can watch the handset's unveiling live at 7:30 pm on a dedicated webpage.
