Asus' ROG (Republic of Gamers) is a prominent name in the intense gaming sector. The company's ever-expanding ROG series sets new benchmarks for other gaming laptops and matches most high-end machines available in the market.
We reviewed the Asus ROG G752, which is priced at Rs. 1.8 lakh, but there are other ROG gaming laptops starting at around Rs. 70,000. At this price range, there are other gaming laptops from Alienware or Apple in the Macbook Pro series, but the ROG G752 is nothing short of others.
Let's talk about ROG G752.
In terms of design, Asus has left no stone unturned. The extremely large 17.3-inch laptop weighs about 4.3 kgs, which is justified by the high-end specs offered in the machine. The ROG logo surrounded by two red-coloured strips, which lights up when the machine is powered on, adds an eye-catching look to rear-end of the laptop. The large, bright red exhaust grille adds a beasty look. We must hand down Asus for the well-matched colours used in the designing of the ROG G752.
When the laptop is opened, there is the display surrounded by a large protective bezel with the company's Asus branding at the bottom. The back-lit keyboard is extremely spacious, designed specifically for the gamers' ease of access. There is no doubt it is one of the top designs.
The massive display with Full HD resolution is not only great for playing high-end graphics games (without any lags), but also suitable for watching movies. But a 2K display at this price point would seem more reasonable. The audio of the laptop isn't as great as we would expect, but it is not too bad as well. There is a Sonic Bass Woofer in the chassis, while did not seem to add more spice to the audio. You can overcome the audio challenge with a pair of headphones, which is usually the preferred choice for gamers.
In terms of specifications and performance, the G752 will not disappoint you. We used the laptop for games and it seems to handle even the high-end graphics pretty well. After all, the laptop is powered by an Intel Core i7-6820HK quad-core processor clocking speeds at 2.7GHz (it can turbo up to 3.6GHz). The chipset is paired with a GeForce GTX 1070, 8GB of GDDR5 memory and four 16GB DDR4-2400 memory modules, which adds up to 64GB.
At the heart of the G752 is a Windows 10 OS. And the laptop takes good care of any storage woes you might have, ever. There is a 512GB SSD and a 1TB hard drive, which have great storage performance. The 1TB hard drive runs at 7200RPM and the SSD has a PCIe Gen 3 interface, which outbids the standard SATA.
On the connectivity front, the laptop has a slew of ports, including Kensington lock port, two USB 3.0 ports, an SD Card reader, a DVD multi-drive on the left, and a gigabit ethernet, HDMI 2.0, mini DisplayPort, two USB 3.0 ports, and a USB 3.1 Type C port (10Gbps) with Thunderbolt 3.
There are separate ports for headphones, microphone, line out and power. For wireless connectivity, there is a dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.1, which can connect your peripherals.
Finally, the massive gaming laptop has an 88Wh 8-Cell Li-Ion battery. We were not entirely impressed by the battery life of the G752, but that's what the gaming laptops are made of. It is best to plug in your machine for uninterrupted gaming experience, unless absolutely necessary to go wireless.
Conclusion
Asus ROG G752 is undoubtedly one of the best gaming laptops we have come across. It guarantees performance at its best. The robust design adds to the machine's great looks and the large screen is a boon for gamers as it gives a really wide view. The specifications are top-notch and there is no compromise there. But the laptop might be overlooked by some for its hefty price tag, bulky size and average battery life. If you are going for a high-end Macbook Pro or an Alienware machine, then the G752 is worth a look.
