If Asus Zenfone series has sparked your interest to buy one of those premium and mid-range handsets, it may be wise to wait until later this month.
Asus is reportedly planning to release a low-end Zenfone Go smartphone later this month. The new handset will be positioned mainly at the entry-level segment and compete against Lenovo, Xiaomi and others.
While it remains to be seen how Asus plans to take on its rivals, leaked specs give a hint of the company's strategy.
A fresh report from Russia offers a close look at the unannounced Zenfone Go along with its specs. According to Phone Arena, the source behind the latest leak is the same who shared the news of Asus Zenfone Selfie, which gives it more credibility.
Diving into the specs of the low-end Zenfone Go smartphone, the report suggests a 5-inch screen with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, 2MP front snapper and Android 5.1 Lollipop. Serving as the power house for the Zenfone Go is a quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor with Mali-400 GPU for graphics paired with 2GB RAM and 8GB internal storage.
In addition, the report speculates that the Zenfone Go will not feature support for 4G LTE and limit itself to 3G connectivity. But that shouldn't make much difference to low-end smartphone buyers as India is still on the verge of becoming a full 4G nation like the US.
There is no concrete information on the pricing and the exact release date for the Zenfone Go, but the specs indicate the handset to be priced below Rs. 10,000 when it hits the market later this month. Also, buyers can choose from various colour options.
