In the beginning of 2015, Lenovo launched a budget 'Exclusive for India' smartphone at the CES, 2015. Following the launch, Lenovo tasted overnight success for offering the cheapest 4G smartphone with decent specifications.
Later, Xiaomi of Mi fame also launched a budget, 'India exclusive' smartphone named Mi 4i, which received reasonable success.
Now, IT hardware manufacturer and ZenFone maker Asus too has recognised the importance of India and decided to hold its first global product launch in the country.
The company sent a teaser mail to selected media outlets which reads: "ASUS to announce a new product in India; the first ever global launch in the country! Expected in August, this launch will bring in further grandeur to one of our existing product lines."
Recently, Asus India Country Manager Peter Chang also wrote on his official Facebook profile hinting at 'something big'.
Though both the teasers haven't mentioned the device that will be launched, it has dropped enough hints that the device will be a budget smartphone.
Market research by various firms have said that more than two-thirds of Indian consumers look for a smartphone priced below Rs. 10,000, a factor that has defined the success of Lenovo, Xiaomi and InFocus.
