At least one person was killed and 23 people injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near a police station in Dhudhnoi area of Assam's Goalpara district Monday, Asian News International (ANI) quoted additional director general of police as saying.
Three policemen were among the injured who were rushed to a government hospital in the area. The bomb was kept inside a dustbin.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was in Goalpara earlier Monday to campaign for the second phase, which is also the last phase, of the assembly elections in Assam, ANI reported. Polling in Goalpara will be held April 11.
Elections for 65 Assembly seats in 28 districts of Assam was held Monday. Over 78.02 per cent voters came out to cast their votes in the first phase, according to Indo-Asian News Service.
