Indian female athlete Pinki Pramanik, who was arrested for raping her live-in partner, also a woman, was released from Dum Dum Central prison on Wednesday.
Pramanik, who was also accused of being male, walked out of the jail at around 9.30 am, a day after a West Bengal court granted her bail on a personal bond of Rs. 5000. She was in police custody for 25 days after a woman accused her of raping her.
Pinki wearing a white, black and red striped T-shirt, and hair tied back in ponytail, stepped out of the jail and told reporters "I have been framed and the 30-year-old woman, who accused me, is still trying to fix me."
On Wednesday morning, the athlete's father Durga Charan Pramanik along with former sportswoman-turned-politician Jyotirmoyee Sikdar, arrived at the jail to receive Pramanik. As soon as she stepped out, her father placed a garland of flowers around her neck, BBC reported.
When asked whether she would file a defamation case against the woman who accused her, Pramanik said she would talk to her lawyer on this matter before taking any decision.
Earlier on Tuesday, a four-member team of State women's Commission visited Pramanik in jail.
"Police and jail authorities have definitely violated her rights. They have mentioned Pinki as a male in the documents. She was being harassed by policemen repeatedly. How can the police decide whether Pinki is a male when the medical report is yet to come? When we met her, she was crying inconsolably," commission chairperson Sunanda Mukherjee told BBC.
Pramanik was arrested on June 15 on charges of rape after her live-in partner filed a police complaint against her at Baguiati police station in West Bengal.
"The complaint stated that the woman athlete was a male and has been cohabiting with her for the past several months with a promise to marry her, but later denied," Outlook India quoted a top official of the Baguiati Police Station, as saying.
According to police, the athlete has been living with her live-in partner for several months. The 30-year-old alleged victim has claimed that Pramanik has forced her for a live-in relationship promising marriage. The victim has also mentioned in her comments that she was often tortured and raped.
