19-year-old Sreeshankar qualified for men's long jump final after just one attempt in the qualifying round.

From finishing eighth in the Commonwealth Games in April to winning the gold here, it has been a solid progress from the 23-year-old.
Tejinder opened the final with a throw of 19.96 and bettered his own mark in the fifth attempt with 20.75m, an Asian Games record. There was literally no one to challenge his first mark, let alone his best.

Muhammed Anas Yahiya qualifies for men's 400m final after topping Heat 2 with an impressive timing of 45.30s.
Meanwhile, Arokia Rajiv qualified for the final after finishing second in semi-final Heat 1 with a timing of 46.08s.
What a day this has been for India on the track and field.
World championships 2017 silver medalist Naser Salwa and U20 IAAF World Championships gold medalist Hima Das were a cut above the rest of the pack in the women's 400m heats.
Salwa set a Games record with a timing of 50.86s. India's Das, the 18-year-old, set a new national record of 51.00s.
Meanwhile, Nirmala Sheoran of India qualified for the final as well finishing fouth overall in the heats with a timing of 54.09s.
What a performance this is from Tejinderpal Singh. He really had no one to challenge his first throw of 19.96m.
However, Tejinderpal himself bettered his mark with a Games Record throw of 20.75m in his fifth attempt. A stunning effort from the man who had finished 8th at the Commonwealth Games.

Both the runners were with the pace-setting pack initially but fell off as the race progressed.
Kyrgyzstan's Daria Maslova finishes with a gold after clocking 32:07.23s while Eunice Chumba of Bahrain and Deshun Zhang of China clinch silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Women's 100m: Dutee Chand makes semi-final!Strong start to Asian Games campaign by Dutee Chand.
The Odisha athlete wins Heat 2 in 11.38s to reach the semi-final of women's 100m.
Sarita Romit Singh finishes the women's hammer throw final with a best throw of 62.03m, a mark below her personal best.
The 28-year-old fouled her last two throws and walked off with disappointment as she was one among the five finalists who managed to cross the 62m-mark.
Sarita is likely to finish fifth in the final.
Luo Na of China gets the gold with 71.42m. She had made four 70-plus throws in the final. Wang Zheng of China took the silver with a throw of 70.86m.
Hitomi Katsuyama won the bronze with a throw of 62.95m.
What a jump from Sreeshankar. With a jump of 7.83m in his first attempt, the 19-year-old has qualified for the final of the men's long jump.

Squash: Saurav Ghosal settles for bronze!Big upset in men's singles squash semi-final!
World number 12 and top seed Saurav Ghosal has lost to lower-ranked Au Chun Ming of Hong Kong 3-2.
The 32-year-old, a silver medalist from 2014 edition, was expected to reach the final but he has lost here despite leading 2-0.
India's second-ranked men's doubles pairing of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy came up with a spirited performance against Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen of China.
The world number two Chinese pair had to save to match points at 20-18 to win the match 13-21, 21-17, 23-25.
Joshna Chinappa loses women's singles semi-final to 19-year-old Sivasangari Subramaniam of Malaysia 3-1.
The 31-year-old wins her maiden individual bronze medal at Asian Games but squandered an opportunity to become the first Indian to reach the squash finals at the continental meet.

The second medal of the day from squash confirmed for India. Earlier in the day, Dipika Pallikal Karthik lost to Nicol David in the women's singles semi-final to settle for bronze.

The referee had to stop the contest as early as in the first round as the Indian pugilist was dominating the bout.
Badminton: Ashwini Ponappa/Sikki Reddy lose quarter-finalAshwini Ponappa and Sikki Reddy fought hard against the third-ranked pairing of Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan of China but were beaten in straight games — 11-21, 22-24.
After a pretty ordinary showing in the first game, the Indian duo made it tough for Qingchen and Yifan and in fact had the lead for the most part of the second game.
Nonetheless, they weren't able to force a decider as the Chinese duo fought back and displayed nerves of steel to close out a tight second game.
Only PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal have managed to reach the quarter-final round so far.
Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy will face second-ranked Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen in a men's doubles Round of 16 tie later today.

India's Vikas Thakur out of medal contention after failing to better his first clean and jerk lift of 190kg.
The 24-year-old didn't have a good snatch round as well as he managed to lift 145kg in his third attempt.
With a total of 335, Vikas is not going to add to India's medal tally, which has remained unaffected since yesterday evening.

Athletics action to begin today!13 of the 57 medals India had won in 2014 came from the athletics contingent. The expectations have only increased since as quite a few superstars have emerged from the track and field for India in the recent past.
Chethan Balasubramanya will kickstart India's athletics campaign in the men's high jump heats. Muhammed Anas Yahiya and Arokia Rajiv will be taking part in the men's 400m heats.
The biggest attractions of the day will be Dutee Chand (100m) and Hima Das (400m).
The former will be making her Asian Games debut after her 2014 she was forced out of the 2014 Games over hyperandrogenism row. Having successfully won legal battles, the 22-year-old will be hoping to prove a point on the field.
She had set a new national recordof 11.29s earlier this June but she needs to considerably imporve if she is to finish on the podium.
18-year-old Das, meanwhile, will be hoping to take Asian Games by storm. She is heading into the multi-sport spectacle on the back of becoming the first woman to win an IAAF gold (World u20 Championships in Tampere).
Morning round-up: Day 7India have begun the day with some shooting action.
Commonweath Games gold medalist Anish Bhanwala will be part of 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Qualification Stage 2 action today.
The 15-year-old shooting sensation had finished the Stage 1 at the third spot on Friday.
Shivam Shukla has completed Stage 2 and has a total of 569 points. He is currently placed 12th and may not qualify for the final.
Skeet shooting
Rashmi Rathore and Sekhon Ganemat are in action in women's skeet shooting qualification Day 1 action.
