Arya has taken a step forward in Malayalam cinema. The popular Tamil actor has turned producer by joining actor Prithviraj's production house August Cinema.  

The news of Arya joining as director was announced on the company's Facebook page.

"August Cinema is now an even more August Cinema association! August Cinema officially and proudly announces the new joinee Director on board. Long time friend and well wisher, dashing south Indian Actor Arya joins Shaji Nadesan , Santosh Sivan, Prithviraj Sukumaran as one of the director in the company's board of directors," posted August Cinema.

Cinematographer Santhosh Sivan and actor-producer Shaji Nadesan are the other directors of August Cinema India Pvt Ltd.

For Arya, this is a new turn in Malayalam cinema. The actor has been part of two Malayalam films produced by August Cinema, the 2011 movie "Urumi" and the upcoming film "Double Barrel".

In "Urumi" directed by Santhosh Sivan, the actor played the character of Kothuwal of Chirakkal/Thanakchan and got a good response from the audience. His upcoming multi-starrer "Double Barrel" directed by Lijo Jose Pelliseri has also raised expectations from him. 

Incidentally, the poster of "Doubel Barrel" was released on 1 January. It is a burst of colours portraying the lead actors in a completely different get up and is a visual treat. No wonder, the poster of the movie designed by Old Monks has received overwhelming response from the audience. 

Besides Arya, "Double Barrel" has a huge star cast that includes Prithviraj, Arya, Indrajith, Swati Reddy, Asif Ali, Isha Sharwani, Sunny Wayne, Vijay Babu, Manu, Chemban Vinod, Anil Murali, Sahid Yahiya, Bineesh Kodiyeri, Rachana Narayanankutty, Anil Radhakrishna Menon, Pearle Maanye, Parvathi Menon, Sabu Abusamad, Shaji Nadeshan and Sherrin Varghese.

The makers of the movie are currently busy with the post production work and the film is expected to hit theatres by February.
