In a twist of events, Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will decide on its coalition to form a government in Delhi, if Congress or Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) guarantee 'unconditional support' to his Jan Lokpal Bill and '16 other issues' in AAP manifestoes.
As per ANI reports, the AAP convener has written letters to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and BJP president Rajnath Singh asking to support the anti-graft Lokpal Bill.
Leaving the office of Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung, Kejriwal said, "I have written to Sonia Gandhi and Rajnath Singh. And I want to know what are their views on Janlokpal and AAP manifesto."
In the meeting, Kejriwal has requested a period of 10 days to decide AAP's opinion on forming the government at the national capital, where they won 28 seats in the 70-member assembly. Lt Governor Jung agreed and said AAP can contact him whenever the party is ready.
Congress had assured to support the one-year-old political party in Delhi, a day before the meeting, in a letter addressed to Lt Governor Jung.
Interestingly, even the BJP extended a hand of support for AAP after turning down Jung's offer to form government in Delhi.
Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel said, "AAP had made many promises including two major promises of reducing power tariff by 50 percent and providing free water up to 700 litres per day. If AAP is really serious about fulfilling these promises, then it should go ahead and form a government and BJP will provide whatever cooperation is required."
"I am surprised that both BJP and Congress are offering us unconditional support. What is their motive? We want to call a special assembly session at Ram Lila Maidan and pass the Jan Lokpal Bill. Does the Congress and BJP agree?" Kejriwal said on Saturday.
"#AAP has always said that we will take support from none of the parties. Bt Congress submitted letter pledging unconditional support to AAP. BJP is also saying it will support #AAP on issue basis. The motive of both these parties should be exposed to the public," the party posted on its Twitter handle.
AAP has sought views of both the rival parties - Congress and BJP - on the following issues:
- No VIP security, no govt. bungalow, no VIP culture
- No MLA, Councillor funds
- Janlokpal for Delhi and investigation of scams
- Audit of power companies and reduction of power rates in Delhi
- Investigation of power meters by independent agency
- Full statehood for Delhi
- Action on water mafia
- Regularization of unauthorised colonies within 1 year
- Rehabilitation of Jhuggis
- Regularization of MCD employees
- Simplification of VAT
- Villages
- Women Security
- Education
- Health etc.
AAP will make public the replies they receive from both the national parties - BJP and Congress - and 'hold a Jan Sabha and ask the public if we should form government,' the party said.
