Earlier this week, Sony released the new Xperia Z2 in Singapore. Now within days, early adopters of the flagship smartphone have begun complaining about a couple of hardware issues.
Some Xperia Z2 owners in Singapore are complaining that their phone is getting over-heated while taking 4K videos and the camera is said to turn-off abruptly. The presence of gap in the smartphone's rim (Aluminum frame around the edges) and on the display (top-right corner) panel has also raised concerns, whether these tiny crevices in the device compromises the phone's water-proof capabilities, reported XperiaBlog.
With increase in the number of complaints, Sony has reportedly issued a statement (courtesy, Singapore Hardware Zone) acknowledging both the problems. The company has urged the users facing water-proofing problem to visit authorized service centres so that their staff perform tests to fix the issue. Those facing over-heating issues have been advised to use high-capacity SD card(Sony phone comes with 16GB inbuilt storage only, expandable up 128GB). High-definition 4K videos usually crams-up the memory, leading to over-usage of processor and the battery, so using additional memory can take the load-off on the processor and also puts a brake on fast draining of the battery.
The news comes as a blow to Sony, as the Japanese company is already facing flak for postponing Xperia Z2 release for Europe region to May (the phone was supposed to hit stores in early April) and to June for Hong Kong Market. There is no word on when the Sony's 2014 flagship handset would set foot in India.
Sony's current predicament is similar to HTC, which faced similar woes with One M7 due to supply problems in 2013. Rivals Samsung and HTC, which have already announced their flagship devices Galaxy S5 and One M8, are expected to get a head-start in global markets over the Sony's Xperia Z2.
