Chinese smartphone vendor, ZTE has reportedly joined hands with online retail giant eBay to release the Firefox OS based ZTE Open handset in the subcontinent.
eBay India, Director (Marketing), Alok Agarwal said, "We are delighted to provide Indian consumers access to the ZTE Open, a popular smartphone which is a great option for first-time smart phone users. This was exclusively available on eBay in the U.S. and the U.K., and is now available in India," reported The Hindu.
Touted as the world's first Firefox OS based smartphone, ZTE Open made its global debut at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2013 back in February. After close to eight months of its unveiling, the device has finally set its foot in the Indian market. It sports 3.5-inch HVGA (320x480p) TFT display with a pixel density of 165 ppi.
ZTE Open ships with 1GHz single-core processor, 256 MB RAM, and 512MB in-built storage with options for expansion via microSD card. Since the device comes under entry-level class, it is expected to attract first-time smartphone buyers who are migrating from a low-cost feature phone.
