"Varuthapadadha Valibar Sangam" (VVS), which was released on 6 September, has made an impressive start at Tamil Nadu box office.
According to senior film journalist Sreedhar Pillai, "VVS" has got the biggest ever opening in Sivakarthikeyan's career. "#VVS has taken a fantastic opening in TN. It is @Siva_Kartikeyan 's best ever day 1 opening. It is a hat-trick and he can b called a Star!," he tweeted.
Sivakarthikeyan's last two releases - "Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga" and "Ethir Neechal" - were big hits. With two consecutive hits to his credit, he is back with yet another comedy caper, "Varuthapadadha Valibar Sangam" directed by debutant Ponram.
"VVS" had a solo release (biggest ever for Siva's film) in more than 400 screens across the globe. The comedy entertainer has received positive feedback from critics as well as film buffs for the impressive performances of Siva, Sathyaraj and Porotta Soori.
The film had a fantastic start in other south-east Asian countries like Singapore and Malaysia. "#VVS good report from overseas Singapore & Malayasia markets where it opened y'day night (5 September) 2 full houses," Sreedhar tweeted.
"VVS" was expected to have a stiff competition from Vishal's "Madha Gaja Raja", which also belongs to the same genre but financial issues have delayed Vishal's film and it did not make it to the theatres on the scheduled date. This has worked in Siva's favour, as his film, "VVS" had a solo release.
Good word of mouth about "VVS" should help the film make good collections in its first weekend. It is also likely to do well on Monday (9 September) as it is a Ganesh Chaturthi holiday. If the film maintains its momentum for a few more days, it could well be a hat-trick for Sivakarthikeyan.
