The Indian Embassy in Afghanistan has issued an alert all Indians settled in the country following the death of Indian author Sushmita Banerjee on Thursday.
"According to family wishes, the writer has been buried in Afghanistan as she was married and settled there. The embassy has issued a general warning to the Indians settled here," PTI reported.
The 49-year-old author, who wrote a popular memoir 'Kabuliwala's Bengali Wife' on her escape from Taliban, was reportedly shot dead outside her house in Kharana, the provincial capital of Paktika.

As per the PTI report, suspected Taliban militants arrived at her house, tied up her family members, took her out and shot her on Thursday.
Banerjee, also known as Sayed Kamala, had recently moved back to Afghanistan with her husband Jaanbaz Khan, who is an Afghan businessman.
She went to Afghanistan in 1989 after marrying Khan, whom she met in Kolkata. Her dramatic escape from the militant group in 1995, gained attention in India and was adapted into a Bollywood film "Escape from Taliban" in 2003, starring actress Manisha Koirala.
The director of the film Ujjwal Chatterjee told Indian Express that he had last met Banerjee in 2006.
A senior police official said Banerjee was working as a health worker in the province. She had been also been documenting the lives of the local afghan women as part of her work. Banerjee regularly wrote about her experiences in Afghanistan for an Indian news magazine - Outlook.
