Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for FC Lorient defender Raphael Guerreiro as Arsene Wenger looks to reinforce his squad this month.
The Gunners were initially thought to be keen on only signing AS Saint-Étienne's defender Loic Perrin. However, latest reports in France indicate that Wenger is looking to make a move for Guerreiro as well.
Although the West London club already have the likes of Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal in the left-back position, Wenger is reportedly looking to add the 21-year-old Portuguese due to his versatility.
Guerreiro, who has won three caps for Portugal, already scoring a goal against Argentina in a friendly at Old Trafford in 2014, is also capable of playing as a left midfielder or a left winger apart from his defensive role.
Now with Lukas Podolski probably not expected to return to the Emirates after being recently loaned out to Inter Milan, Wenger may be targeting someone to replace the German even though he did not make much first team appearances this season.
Guerreiro would certainly be a very useful addition to the Gunners squad as he will be able to play as a defender as well as a midfielder depending on what is required.
Meanwhile, Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is reportedly facing a fine of £20,000 being accused of smoking in the showers following the Gunners' 2-0 defeat at Southampton on New Year's Day.
Although the Gunners recently rubbished former midfielder John Jensen's claims of the North London club suspending him for the rest of the season, it is believed that the Polish keeper is facing a fine of £20,000 following the incident.
Szczesny's first team spot place was in some doubt after the errors he made during Arsenal's defeat to Southampton, but, according to the Telegraph, he is expected to retain his place against Stoke City on Sunday.
